So, the turkey is causing the freezer door to 'not quite' close. The Presents are all covered in selotape with dirty finger prints and rough edges. The visiting relatives are getting dauntingly close. And thankfully, the drinks cabinet is stocked to bursting point to make it all worth-while. WELL... don't set those end of year alarms just yet. It's been what some would say a very healthy year for UK hip hop, but it ain't over til the fat lady reads that condescending and contradictory speech she didn't even write. Out this week and possibly one of the best presents you'll get yourself is a new one by Bohze. following up from 2015's Bottom Left Corner EP - presenting - Top Left Corner: Skeleton Staff. Thanks hip hop sannta! Now let's tear that wrapping off and get stuck in!
Bohze has been a pioneer of the UK sound since the first days it started bellowing over the American twang in it's own proud voice. II Tone Committee, like others at the time, blazed the way for the culture we so adore today. Take a look at any Sentanalez track and it stands strong as one of this island's finest offerings. Over the last few years Bohze has become a force for the fight against mediocrity in the industry, as well as someone who pushes his own boundaries as par for cause. His swagger and patois are proudly and riotously Scottish, with lyricism that 90% of MCs couldn't even hope to twist their tongues around. He also has some pretty damn talented friends...
In a year of quality albums where UK hip hop bathed in the limelight, this for me shines as one of the brightest. No track falters and they refuse pander. The result is as fresh as the winter winds and as heavy as the red bloke after a night of present delivery and a billion mince pies. Get ya lug oles round dis! Oh, and Merry bloody Christmas!
