Things have been a little quiet around here lately until we saw Skrabl is back to release his album The Emperor's New Garms, we quickly perked up to hear what he was going to bring this time around! Having been a big fan of his earlier release in 2014 titled Life Through Kaleidoscope Eyes we were keen to hear where the last two years have taken him on and off record. The new album spans a total of 14 tracks all which feature one producer (bar one track) known as Oozhe allowing them both to showcase their chemistry and work ethic together.
Throughout the album you can expect appearances from Dotz, Geebag, Flo, Wordsmiff FLIP and Si Phili! If this all plans out then we're in for a treat! So let's delve into The Emperor's New Garms starting with Intro (T.E.N.G), Oozhe hits us with a majestic instrumental introducing us to what's in store as the Emperor Skrabl emerges. Barbarous Acts is the first full length track with Skrabl on the opening verse with a bag of quotables, Dotz drops in for a feature and bodies the second verse opening the album with a head boppin banger. With the album starting on a hype it's only right to have Ignoramus which was an instant stand out upon consumption. As the title suggests you can expect a neck snapping beat by Oozhe as Skrabl gets geared up to spew two ignorant verses at your dome piece! If you want the evidence then hit play below!
DunDunDun is the forth track and features Geebag who's been shutting shit down for time! Oozhe brings out a beat that's somehow sinister and funky throughout as each emcee brings an onslaught of bars. Keep On continues to showcase the diversity from Oozhe as he unleashes a food for thought, feel good instrumental. Skrabl rides the beat flawlessly and dropping reflective subject matter throughout, trudging on through the miseries of life which leads us on to Head Down nicely! The beat on this one is from Myst the only other producer on the whole joint and you'll hear why. Skrabl can set the tone for a track with ease and Head Down is a fine example of that, bombarding the listener with copious amounts of relatable subject matter for many of us! Roll up a zoot and kick back for this one.
Another one of the stand out tracks for us was lost All at Sea featuring the one and only Flo lacing the vocals/chorus. Oozhe brings out another stellar instrumental allowing Skrabl to slow down his flow and paint an array of pictures as he picks apart pivotal moments in his life. As the deep vibe continues to build throughout the album we hit Jaded which sets to continue through the inner mind of Skrabl and his thoughts. As the conscious vibe oozes from the instrumental Skrabl airs his thoughts from an underdog perspective and having to endure more than enough years already on this twisted globe.
26 Letters is a trip through time and space with Oozhe's extraterrestrial production, the opening skit and running concept conveyed by Skrabl throughout the track! Insane track that'll encapsulate you for longer than it seems! We're going to skip B32 as we always like to leave a few to experience entirely yourself! (Scroll down and cop the album!) Venom is next up and was the second official video to drop, besides it being another stand out track in which Skrabl's pengame and Oozhe production is on some next level shit, the visuals brought something different to the table too. If you have any of that zoot left you rolled earlier, then continue as you are if not grab another and peep the video!
We're going to skip Guano featuring Wordsmiff FLIP, Si Phili & DJ Jabbathakut on the cuts and just say scroll down and smash that play button on the official album plugin! Nearing the end of the album we land on a track titled Acidic Phlegm II, the second part to the barbaric onslaught which originally featured on Life Through Kaleidoscope Eyes! As the infectious beat begins to begin and the MK sample drops Skrabl launches once again to bombard the beat into oblivion, firing a slew of bars towards all the fraudsters and non-believers lurking in the shadows. The time has come in which we find ourselves on the Outro track but feat not, Skrab's flipped the script and it's The Reintro! For one final time the endangered specimen is released into a sea of fakes and dead weights to murder another impeccable instrumental from Oozhe! Peep the video graphic evidence below!
Unfortunately that brings Skrabl & Oozhe's The Emperor's New Garms to an end but what an album it was! From the ruckus of Barbarous Acts ft Dotz and Ignoramus to the life reflective All at Sea with Flo and Jaded it's safe to say Skrabl and Oozhe trumped my expectations every step of the way. Don't take our word for it and peep the entire album below before and cop a digital for £6 and physical for £8 (While copies last yo!).
