Manorisms is the second project released by Midland hip hop group Aristocrats, consisting of Stash Mandizoot, Stil Bizzy, Jmaxfield and Double.Negative.
When we last spoke I asked Stil to describe the concept behind the follow up to the Aristocracy EP; he finished his zoot and told me: ‘Manorisms represents the home of the crats and the base for the music we be pushing, so the underlining narrative is in the progress of that jazzy shit Jmax is constructing through instrumentals an how myself and stash feel bout the outside world.’ Deep.
Their progression is evident; the Manorisms EP stands like a prestigious estate. The skits are trimmed hedges around the manor, giving context to the concepts & instrumentals; the beats themselves play the part of domestic help, keeping shit in aristocratic shape whilst wordlessly hinting at a darker side, and Stash & Stil take the role of aristocracy, saying & doing as they please and generally acting like a couple scallys without worrying about repercussions, just as the social elite do on a daily with impunity.
My favourite track off Manorisms’ has gotta be Comedown Trip to Morrisons. Double.Negative’s production gives it a dark dimension, reflected in the tone of two MCs. The concept itself is hilarity, something many will relate to. With poignant lines such as “I’m brain dead like a bug eyed freak, looking like a reptile being short of a speech” and a illy flow throughout, I hope we get a video for this one.
All in all a solid body of work from the Cratz, make sure you grab this from their official bandcamp below!
