Hailing from southern shores is a lyricist and MC I can only describe as 'unique'. Developing his presence through weird and wonderful hip hop tinged bands and making a name for himself as one of the funniest and most intelligent UK battle MCs, Adam Felman and his various guises has given us entertaining hip hop products for some time. Now mature and all grown up, he has crafted a fine EP to show the high level of skills he has achieved through his experiences.
In his own words... "This time five years ago, I was rapping about poo and space. Since then I have been all the way to debt and depression and back. And so Good Grief was born." Adam has also chosen to donate all the profits from the release to 'Mind' the mental health charity, which is a beautiful sentiment to begin the EP on, and the first track seems to proudly state that the lyricism and its honesty is as vital as the music itself.
The beats are a soundscape to the journey and the story. Atmospheric and in parts eerie, they seem to cradle and comfort the rhymes while they cry on the shoulder of the beat. With some fantastic backing vocals from Beth Cannon of Written in Waters, the EP is a relaxing listening experience. Comedic and cathartic, crazy and caring. Good Grief is often like a therapy session run by someone in baggy jeans and high tops.
Self produced, lovingly crafted and packed full with brutally honest and heart baring lyricism, this is a release Adam should be very proud of. The new mature Felman is a diverse and interesting artist and it's well worth following him along his winding road.
