DJ Format and Abdominal Reunion Tour Review
One of the UK's most prolific producer DJs over the years is one hailing from the south coast, the funky fresh DJ Format. Together with an array of MCs here and across the globe, he has produced some of the best and the funkiest hip hop to ever bless my speakers. There have been a lot of reunions lately in hip hop, and some, i'm sad to say fall too short of the mark, but there is one that more than works. That duo have brought us one of the best new tunes of late and they are - DJ Format and Abdominal MC. Their new single and video 'We Say' is a joy for the senses, so i was excited to see what they would be like in front of Format's home town crowd.
Ab Dominal and Format graced the stage last night in the club with the lowest ceiling in the world, and managed to raise the roof as if it were the Albert Hall. Ab's vocal cords are nothing short of amazing and had a true work out, wowing the crowd with syllable acrobatics that even the best of us envy. The night kicked off with a DJ set from Format that would of tickled any true hip hop heads fancy. With that perfect balance of underground-rarety yet recognisable-attention-grabbers, Format's choons and changes were faultless throughout his sets that sandwiched the one with Ab. The duo hold the audience like they'd never left, and their partnership and indeed friendship gleams through in their performance. They are welcoming, approachable and down to earth and that's what makes them so special. All the tunes we wanted, some with surprising new twists and some brand new tunes too including their great new single 'We Say'. The chorus more than sums this come back up, to quote - "You say senior, we say mature. You say expired, we say endured. You say past our peak, we say in our prime. You say format and Abs, we say beats and ryhmes." I'm looking forward to a full release dropping soon, hint hint.
