Broken Authors consists of Invokal (emcee) and Tones (producer), together crafting an original duo with each and every hip hop element at heart. Earlier in the month they dropped their debut album Get Up, Get Stressed consisting of 12 tracks in total in which extract the best elements of the old school titan, and dragging it right up to 2015 kicking and screaming! We're going to delve into Get Up, Get Stressed with a full length review so let's see what they've brought to our table!
Chapter 1 opens up with a short skit prepping you and putting forth their disclaimer for what you're about to experience. Getting catapulted shortly after straight into Regardless featuring Guy and his often wonderful Orchestra and Faye Housten oozes in infectious production and a golden hook! Invokal encapsulates the listener with ease as he delivers his unique sound with intricate penmanship on a underdog tip! Imagine This switches the beat with upbeat neck snapping production with Invokal opening up with a hook analyzing the state of portions of the scene! The track also features Deepblak who opens with with the first verse, firing a slew of barbaric flows and penmanship showcasing his creativity! Embrace for some ill mixing as Invokal comes straight back in with one of my favorite verses of his, picking apart society with clear diction and flawless writing!
Next up is another short skit for Chapter 2 over a funky backdrop by Tones, as it fades out Fighting Charm featuring Steve And The Ghost! Tones showcases his stellar production yet again with a beat that'll have you bobbin from start to finish, Invokal opens with a hard hitting hook which oozes into the first verse! Throughout the track you'll witness Invokals immense presence on beat as he paints vivid pictures with ease, breaking down the dark society and war-torn world we're heading for. We're going to skit Swing My Axe for your listening pleasure, so scroll down and hit play!
Shortly after you're hit with another immense skit for Chapter 3! A Darker Shade Of Green has some serious next level production, creating an eerie atmosphere as the beat builds and distorts, Invokal knows exactly how to flow over it, supplying copious amounts of food for thought enticing your mind in with each rhyme laced. Every track in this album has been polished to perfection and 3 Decades featuring Ree is no exception! Embark on a journey through life and times as Invokal bends words with ease, looking back on the journey through making music, discovering the artform and the trials and tribulations which come with it. We're going to plug this one also so hit play on the bandcamp plugin right below!
As we near the end of Get Up, Get Stressed we land on the final skit titled Chapter 4 of course! A Journey Through Space And Time is the second to last track on the album and it brings more treats, focusing purely on Tones production/mixing and strong sample game, allowing you to digest the previous tracks, prepping you for the albums finale! UFO Unleashed Furious Oralists contains the efforts of many people pulling together at first to drop a semi-normal hiphop inspired track, which soon ended up as a sci-fi inspired rhymefest! The track has been produced by Dj Tones to bring you that intergalactic beat, with the following emcees bringing you a verse! Mista Websta, Tony The Scribe, Lennie, TS One, One Native Son, Gin Genie, Adam The Rapper, North Laine, Asbest The Moor King!
You can peep the single version of this track and the official video below, slightly different from the album version and well worth a watch/listen! Featuring a guest appearance from comedian Alex Lynch and starring the beautiful Lucy Jones as your heroine. Invokal wrote and directed the video and Joel Shepherd really brought the vision to life with his video production skills! Shout outs to Mr Simmonds for mastering this beauty as well!
