The Prophacy is a five man collective (Marley, Jake, Ben, Luke and Grunge man) coming straight outta Penzance who have recently put themselves well and truely on our radar! Last month I reached a OneLion Sound event in Exeter where I met these guys going in on a pre-warm up cypher tip and then later catching their live set, it's safe to say they're a clik who deserve more shine than they get! This week The Prophacy are dropping their second debut album via OneLion Records titled Straight Buggin produced by Marley and features a total of 11 tracks, I've been itching to see the final result so let's delve straight into it!
Straight Buggin opens up with Alien Insect instantly hitting you with an inducing head nodding beat, each tackling their verses with a slew of a metaphors and lively flows. Who's The Squad? Well after you listen to this track the answer is going to be ingrained into your personal belief system. As soon as Up 'n' Funky starts it'll win you over, as the name suggest! You can expect the Mantis Men to let loose with their versatile flows and hard hitting delivery as they ignite the beat, each bringing verses with a variety of bars showcasing the penmanship flawlessly. Off The Rails is next up and brings a beat infused with old school vibrations, setting The Prophacy up to hit you with their slower flows! This is a straight up cotching track so roll up a warhead and embark on a journey through the Mantis mind! Hit play below!
The 5th track on the album is House Of Flying Saucers and the beat brings multiple muay thai kicks to the dome as they spit on a demonic tip, listen as they co-exist in humanville. We're gonna skip the next two tracks which are The Harvest and Operating Chamber so make sure you peep them on the bandcamp plugin below! Reign Of Terror is the shortest track on the album and still packs a punch, as the unnerving beat builds 2 of the emcees body the beat as they display how easy the wordplay comes to them telepathically. Time Machine is a straight up picture painter, the beat is from deep down in the catacombs and the clik know exactly what to do. Travel through space and time as each emcee analyzing the globe as they step in and out of their time machine.
This next one is a favorite of mine titled Step Aside, you can hear The Prophacy in full effective right here! With a beat that oozes those funky neck snappin vibes, as they each come equipped with a barrage of bars delivered with some of the illest flows I've heard in time! Penzance, penzance, penzanceeeee! The last track on the album is Damn Straight and to end it, they've brought a tranquil beat that'll illuminate your inner chakras as they set out to prove one last time, their clik's better than yours! If you've still got some piff in your baggy, indulge one last time!
Our review for The Prophacy's second album Straight Buggin has now come to an end but you'll be glad to know it dropped only a few hours ago and is available for free download! We've only discovered these heads recently and I can safely say after their live set and having my hands on this album early, we're fully fledged mantis men supporters. If you want an album that bangs from start to finish, is compact with bars, metaphors and ill flows then this is for you! Grab the album below for free via OneLion Sound and prepare for the invasion!
