There are many different guises to UK hip hop. We have always been an island of diversity and we're known for being welcoming to artists coming from a variety of angles. Coming straight in with a beat from one of the UKs most recognisable producer names, Born Alone, the new video from Teej and Cuth is a lush and lavish laid back hip hop lilo on an ocean of lyrical lines and love.
Known for dropping some of the UK's finest releases with rapper Adam, Cuth has teamed up with an MC who's been making his gravy on southern shores for many years. Teej, of hip hop crew The Menagerie and the UK's finest freestyle collective The Spoken Herd, has taken one of Cuth's hazy sun filled gems and layered it with some wonderful wordsmithery. Perfectly positive without excuse, the track talks about those moments in life when things come together in unity. It' also a shout out to all the positivity and love that heads in the scene strive to spread behind the aggy mask hip hop has come to wear.
Directed, shot and edited by David (Namchild) Clark, the video isn't the usual 4 minute selfie either. A colourful story, using a sports day classic - the egg and spoon race to tell a tale of breaking free from the drudgery of the modern day mundane to a celebration and festival of flowing flames and beach fires. All three elements come together to create something of beauty.
We're anticipating big things from Teej and Cuth when their debut album '7 Ages' drops on the 23rd of November, we're promised it's - "A soulful, psychedelic exploration of the themes of life told through the perspective of seven ages". Sounds bloody good to us, roll on the 23rd!
