Once in a blue moon a collaboration of artists comes along that appears to eclipse the scene around them. With the follow-up to 2014's Killer Combo! album, Kompyla Records present the brand new Dr Syntax & Pete Cannon album - Elaborate Anoraks. With more beastly beats than an Eton initiation party, and more lines than their toff noses could take, this album has more to say than a table full of tabloids. The bars don't stop and the beats never dissapoint, and every feature slot fits in like a hipster in Portlandia. In fact it's hard to find something not to like.
Managing to combine a wicked wit with worthy wordsmithery is a rare thing in itself. And blending beautifully bars, beats and bravery to be experimental is even rarer. The Doc manages the lot. Dr. Syntax partnenered with producer Pete Cannon have become a dream team that stands alone at the top of the stack. Seeing a new release float passed one can't help but do a double take.
Dr. Syntax has a way with the pen that seems to bring the audience in at his lyrical level. Like he's an old mate telling us stories of sin and stupidity that you both fondly remember. Always humblingly honest and happy to bare his soul if it'll get a smile. Pete Cannon seems to hold a gift for the groovey and gets each sample he's dug up into its prime and proudest. The result is to reach in to the rarest of corners of your body and make them tap, bob and nod like they know they want to.
From the intro track Turn The Sound Up! through to the hectic genius of Roll With The Rush, the album manages to merge melody with mic murdering. To summarise, this is a spanking and shiny new album that would sound superb at any shindig. As soulful as it is silly. In equal parts serious, salacious and sharp, Elaborate Anoraks is a must for any seeker of UK hip hop.
