High Focus signee Dirty Dike has been busy in the lab for the last year, working on collaborative projects to bring us that next level production that festers in his musical mind. At the same time he's been grafting to release his next solo album which is set to drop on the 21st of September! The album is titled Sucking On Prawns In The Moonlight and comes equipped with a total of 14 tracks and an array of quality features! We've been clucking for another release from Dirty Dike for a while now, so let's delve into it and find out what he's bringing to our domes this time around!
The opening track for Sucking On Prawns In The Moonlight is titled Great Attempt and eases you in with greasy piano loops as Dirty Dike and Fliptrix lace it with gritty city-life tales. Alcoholic Tosser see's the return of the arrogant Dirty Dike we've all learnt to love! Instantly delving into a neck snappin beat backed up with multiple slaps around your dome as Dirty Dike vividly paints his life, state of mind and future with his rhymes. I Aint Got A Clue was the 1st single and further sees the return of the angry Dikestar we experienced with Bogies & Alcohol! This time taking the time to direct his anger towards the state of society from trampy females, debts to trust issues and more! Check out the official video for the 1st single below!
Mallory And Josephine continues to echo the dark tales of modern inner city life, following in the footsteps of two neighbors with their own sinister/abusive lifestyles that lead nowhere but down the wrong path. The beat selection thus far has been a perfect match for Dikes style, however Isleham Swamp produced by Joe Corfield begins to switch the mood and show us a different side to his music. Check out the official video for Isleham Swamp below!
The Lamb Shank Intermission provides a brief interlude to rebuild your psyche, lasting approx 30 seconds leading onto the 7th track nicely, Prawns. Prawns features production that expels funky vibes as the beat switches to accentuate Dikes rhymes as he explains more about how he's came to be. Takeover features one of the sickest beats I've heard in a minute, with Remus opening the 1st verse with an onslaught of hard hitting bars with Dike coming in to body the second with remus shutting down the third! Word of advise.... watch out for Remus.
Paper Tigers is a major stand out track for us, featuring the legendary Chester P and HF partner in rhymes, Verb T. Here you can see Dike take a different approach to the mic, allowing his guard to be lowered to bring a more serious attitude to the beat, bombarding it with bars on a reflective tip which has shaped his future. We're going to skip the next three tracks which are Me And You, Crystal Cindy and Feast to save some surprises for the albums arrival on the 21st of September!
Hold My Hands is a standout track for us, drenching your earlobes with illusive, gritty production that enables Dike to take a step back and allow us closer into his psyche. Prepare to listen as Dike delivers a concise flow as he pens hazy thoughts that dwell deep within, from substance abuse to the ying and yang of hip hop. Posse Gang Eight Million is somewhat explanatory from the title being a posse cut, expect to hear Remus, Ocean Wisdom, Jam Baxter, Lee Scott & Dabbla end the SOPITM on a banger!
Unfortunately we've hit the end of the album bringing our review to a closure! It's been a turbulent ride as we expect with Dirty Dike however there's a lot of depth to the album, from spewing arrogance, reflecting on drug abuse to Dike showing his calmer, collected and deeper side off his pengame. Weighing in with a total of 14 tracks you can guarantee a handful of obnoxious tracks we expect from Dike, however he brings a solid selection of intricate subject matters through out SOPITM! If you're already a fan of Dike then expect a treat and if you're new then strap a zoot and get ready for an experience rivaled by no one in the scene. You can pre-order (drops 21st of September) Sucking On Prawns In The Moonlight on CD for £8.99 and on Vinyl for 17.99 below! Click the official album art to head over to the High Focus store now!
