When scouring the UK for true hip hop heads, you need look no further than the independent labels. One of the finest examples of this is Fat Hop Records, and one of the finest examples of a hip hop elder is Jerome Hill. Label running since the turn of the century, he birthed Fat Hop in 2009 to cater for his more hip hop, sample driven offerings.
All too often those making the true quality hop are over-looked these days in favour of wild youth and heavy bass. Neither shall survive without the other. Jerome Hill is one of the rare producer/DJs that realises this, and indeed exploits it to its full potential. For the showcase i've chosen to point you towards a collection of his best recent works. Remixes and special releases for hip hop pioneers, including trip hop, bass hop, lyricism and some of the finest the UK has to offer.
To catch Jerome live is something that should be on everyone's 'to do' list, and he plays out DJing Hip Hop, Techno, Old School Rave, Funk, Soul, Reggae and much more. "I'm a techno man mainly, but I do lots of party hip hop 'anything goes' sets. Basically good music that is fun at a party, club or rave, that also has integrity and respects its roots."
Without such true heads as he pulling the reigns, the scene would have lost its way a long time ago. If you're a wax addict, go seek some of that rare vinyl (Discogs link below). If you call yourself a UK head, then go get to know - Jerome Hill.
