The Glasgow scene has given us a wealth of talent recently, showing its true hip hop credentials by turning out eclectic and brave music that challenges the genre in 2015. This release includes several artists straight off the crest of the wave. Firstly, in the shape of a sample from the scene's pioneer and Grandfather - Mistah Bohze. And secondly, by featuring the unfaultering lyrical skills of one of the UK's finest - Loki.
Directed by Mackenzie and produced by Andy Martin, Ciaran Mac's debut track is a showcase of a new face to a thriving scene. After a quickly building intro the track drops with a handfull of quality head bobbing cuts, before Ciaran kicks off the bars with a torrent of well aimed attitude and cleverly rhymed social contempt. The idea here is clear - giving weight to the voices of a disillusioned culture, abused and neglected by the very people who are supposed to protect it. With solid lines and a slick delivery, Ciaran has clearly spent time and care defining his approach, and certainly gives the listener an anticipation for future releases.
The beat is well produced and flows easliy with the lyricists it works with. The video is full of atmospheric sky lines and examples of areas neglected by years of economic inequality. Spliced with shots of live performances and colourful night shots of city scapes represented by a sea of lights. Loki does nothing to stop the flow of style, bringing his A-game with line after line of his patented hierarchy-hating hip hop humour. Good solid work from all involved and a sign of someone who's here to put a boot stamp on the map. Quality music from our own shores and we look forward to the EP which drops soon.
