It's been a big week for hiphop and everyday there's another exciting project to look forward to, this week is no exception with one of our favorite labels Revorg Records dropping the latest release from TPS member, Big Toast titled The Wedding Fund LP which was released 3 days ago (10/03/2015). Featuring a total of 15 tracks, all with their own producer with a stack of heavy features through out with the likes of Efeks, Jack Diggs, Strange Neighbour, Ill Move Sporadic, Oliver Sudden, Dakit and more swinging by for a guest verse! Before we jump into the review, let's quickly explain the concept of the album and the reason behind the name The Wedding Fund LP. The reason behind the name is down to Toast making a decision to marry his girlfriend last year, however we all know we're living in a climate of high cost of living, budget cuts and minimum wage salaries in dead end jobs with no progression! Therefor Big Toast has dropped his debut solo album with the aim of raising funds to help make it happen! At the same time he'll discuss multiple issues with society, tarquins, marriage and politics which has lead him to his mindstate, Now we've explained the name, let's delve into our full length review!
Opening up the album is My New Record with Beat Tsar bringing a classical piano loop based beat, featuring a short skit on marriage until Big Toast lays down his cold flows and greasy rhymes preparing you for what's to come next! Waste Days produced by Ogre Drool supplies a hyped nerk jerking beat for Toast to open up with the first verse, going in on the Tory Scum by expressing his daily thoughts! Ogre Drool continues with the second verse, keeping the subject matter moving with his encapsulating flow. Wedding Fund is the self titled track from the album, featuring production from Ill Move Sporadic supplying a solid platform for Big Toast to get busy with, light up, kick back and absorb his rhymes as he ponders how he can potentially raise more funds in this day and age! Nothing but a banger, from production, flow, content to presence you can expect to hear Toast in his element, hit play below!
Unbelievable Krimewave is an undeniably dope track and all I need to say is posse cut! With Big Toast on the first verse following with Jack Diggs, Oliver Sudden, Ogre Drool, Gee Bag, Stinkin Slumrok and FlowTecs! Each emcee brings their own style to engulf the eerie productions from Sam Zircon. Sheep tells the tales of Toast's daunting experience of being stone cold sober in a suburban pub, bumping heads with wealthy idiots talking about inane issues, "immigration" by typical racists while Downstroke provides echoes of classic Premo material. Skipping Set This Straight ft Jack Diggs & Efeks and Sell Units to save for your listening pleasure (peep them right at the bottom!) we land on one which is without a doubt one of my favorite tracks from the release, titled Fuck Off Tarquin and featuring Big Toast, Jack Diggs, Dakit and Strange Neighbour all lacing verses over a DJ Al Might production! Focusing on the effects of gentrification through out working class communities, with a bit of a spin... hence the name! Peep the official video below and help fight back against Tarquinian invaders.
Play brings some uplifting vibess with the thanks of 184 handling the beat, prepare as Toast brings hypnotic flows as he breakdowns the zombie riddled consumers living the stereotypical lifestyles. Toast displays impeccable pengame on this one with whats normally a depressing subject but he maintains to keep the mood on a motivational tip with ease. Next is track 10 of 15 titled Good which is drenched in head nodding bars going through all of the simple things to strive for in life, not the desk jockeys pushing keys chasing paper checks! Graveyard Shift is a track that hits home for musicians stuck in hour draining job for bills/studio, finding bookings for the evening shift in an already short day! Most of those stuck in a 9-5 can relate to this on too! Skipping Shit Pub to keep a surprise, featuring Oliver Sudden & Luca Brazi (available below!) we get to Old Cunt which is a pretty self explanatory thanks to the carefully chosen name. If you haven't worked it out yet Big Toast is a little older than the 16 year old road nob heads spitting watered down bars. Toast is an old cunt, who doesn't give a shit what you think because growing up is for those uninspiring heads who chase someone elses dream!
Married Life is another certified head nodder which dispels many myths that come with marriage, although many of these are actual traits which follow tieing the knot, the difference is that Toast ain't on that wave! He won't be cotching watch omnibuses of Hollyoaks or parring his crew off all because of a legal binding contract! Toast won't change for shit but will obviously hold it down at home. The last track on The Wedding Fund LP has arrived, neatly named Departing with the production being handled by Jack Diggs so you know it's gonna be greasy. Expect Big Toast to bring his potent pengame to the forefront of this one as he prepares for marriage and refuses the normality's that come with it. Soon the beat switches on some tranquil vibes, as Big Toast closes the album with subject matter about leaving the physical life as the sun goes down while consuming booze! Peep the video below and keep scrolling for the album!
