Bringing you something truly special today from Joe Dojo And Pandamonium who reign from the Southwest, having met each other many moons ago in Plymouth they had loosely making music in each others presence, until Joe Rojo approached Pandamonium to feature on his up and coming debut production project titled Altruistic Motives EP in 2013! Soon after Joe Dojo decided that it was time to make his mark on the scene with his debut EP and the only person right for the job was Pandamonium, thus Skills That Dont Pay The Bills EP was born. The project dropped late last month on the 27th of February and contains a total of 9 tracks (plus two bonus tracks) to bless your eardrums, so without further ado, let's get our review started!
Kicking off the 11 track EP is #STDPTB Intro, a self titled intro which contains rugged production, lots of cuts and scratching and Joe Dojo slewing an assortment of rhymes with a head nodding flow and pengame. Next up is Hipflask Harmonics which I like to think of as a flawless example of how compatible these two heads are! With Pandamonium supplying the funkaliously potent production as Joe Dojo glides across it effortlessly showcasing his encapsulating flow, penmanship and chemistry with Pandamoniums production. An official video has been created for Hipflask Harmonics so hit the play button below to hear it yourself!
Jump is the third track from the release with Pandamonium bringing another beat dripping with funky piano loops, oozing unique and authentic production that'll get your neck snappin without your knowledge! Joe Dojo can't be held back when Pandamonium comes through with such heat, so expect Dojo to engulf it with lucid flows, wordplay and strong presence! Relax Ya Mind is a short interlude that'll open your pineal gland as you soak in the rays of tranquillity. Next is Day By Day containing the first of two appearances from Flo (Joe Dogo's sister) bringing the vocals. Taking flights with more vivid pengame infused with smooth delivery allowing each word to soak in as he glides across Pandamonium's potent production, Flo absolutely kills the hook certifying this as another banger!
It's hard to pick a favourite from a release packed with substance but a contender is Raised The Same, featuring a truthful skit going in on those having kids because they lack direction or a clear goal for their existence. You can expect nothing but excellence on the production from Pandamonium, while Joe Dojo yet again showcases his versatile flow game, drenched in wordplay and head nodding hook! Dillacation if you don't know from the title is a tribute to J Dilla, featuring a short interlude and skit. Second to last track is one of the very first we heard from the release, titled Swamp Stomp featuring Mix Masta Mullet on the scratching! Entice yourself with funky retro vibes which'll echo through your head space for days, guaranteed to get you vibing in different dimensions as Joe Dojo bodies the track with his pen and his barrage of flows! Certainly in my top 3.
Homesick kicks off with a short skit from Charlie Chaplin and one of his well known speeches, blending into a beat that oozes tranquillity and reflection, creating a platform for Joe Dojo to further your expectations with his ability to paint vivid imagery with each word, meanwhile we have Flo featuring for the second time, warming your soul with heavenly vocals on the hook! Peep the official video below!
Don't forget that when downloading the release there is two bonus tracks and without going into any detail Wherever I Roam is a track any head will get busy with, in one word; flawless. That brings our review of Skills That Dont Pay The Bills by Joe Dojo & Pandamonium to an end and I'm glad we've been kept up to date with the project as it progressed! These heads have truly grafted for this release and you can clearly hear it with every song, crafting a truly unique listening experience from start to finish, from the production, rapping, subject matter, flows, scratching and vocals from Flo! It's a perfect blend of talent and it's available for Free Download which is day light robbery if you ask me, head over to their official bandcamp now and grab your copy!
