It's not often the first listen through an EP or an Album has you hooked. Sometimes the odd tune grabs you and beckons you back sure, a little earwig that bugs you til you revisit to scratch it. But sometimes, rarely, but sometimes, you're hooked like candy to a sweet tooth. I came across Jister a few weeks back, a cleverly made video that appeared in my newsfeed, and i remember thinking then that i'd be hearing from him again. How glad I was then to see his brand new EP pop up in my inbox. Together with The Lion Ranger, Jister has forged something that showcases just how clever a lyricist he is. This man takes his penmanship seriously. Stunningly crafted rhymes, and syllable placement to make even the slickest of our current UK crop druel with envy. From the crackle of the first sample and the drop of his first 16 you can tell this is serious art, and far from the money craving cash ins that hip hop has all to often stooped to. Raw, energetic, catchy and beats that are some-way some-how unbelievably head nodding. This is the voice of someone walking down a typically crazy UK street and reporting what he sees with eloquence and just the right amount of attitude. And one more thing. Jister has embraced his thick accent and made it a unique and solid force within his hip hop, something all too rare in these days of carbon copy radio. His voice bellows with passion and a love for his craft. Highlight track for me is 'Now That You', although it was hard to pick one. Go grab your copy before someone else raves about it and tells you to.
