Blahrecords are one of many labels at the forefront of the scene, building its audience, refining their craft and dropping greasy bangers since the dawn of time. One of their signees goes by the name of Black Josh, struggling with a massive chronic cannabis dependency he's been locked away to work on his latest release, a mix tape titled BlahBlahBlackJosh featuring a total of 16 tracks which dropped on the 22nd of August. We missed this one when it originally dropped earlier in the year but are glad to say, we're gonna kick off with a full length review!
BlahBlahBlackJosh opens up with a short intro putting his on stamp on the Black Sheep nursery rhyme, effortlessly it blends into the second track Paul Scholes produced by Morq. Bringing that classic golden era vibes, with a sound similar to "Souls Of Mischief" you can expect Black Josh to lace it with his signature flow and greasy pen game leading up to a rush of nostalgia. An official video is also available for Paul Scholes below.
Ignants My Instinct features a tranquil beat by Reklews that Black Josh tackles with laid back delivery and glitchy to elusive wordplay through out, emcee Bill Shakes also makes an appearance on the track wrapping it up flawlessly. Eczema is the 4th track and features Black Josh going in on a self reflective tip, from his troubles as a youth, racism, falling in love to have your heart ripped from the chest and so on! It's a pure banger from start to finish and the hooks killer! Check out the official video below.
Skipping track 5 (get yourself a copy!) we find ourselves on Serious featuring a grimey beat in which Black Josh approaches with nothing by fast paced bars about why he doesn't take anyone serious. Catchin Them Feelins features another beat which oozes the 90's era, Black Josh displays his versatility in terms of style and subject matter, running through the "Catching Feelings" stage with chasing skirt and the backlashes which can follow. Smoke And Sex has some tech nine vibe and is a slow jam where Black Josh tells the ladies exactly what he wants, a lady who gives it all while indulging in his favorite recreational habit, smoking!Track 9 is titled Stoner and as you can probably guess from the name, this track is about Black Josh's favorite recreational activity, herb. The track goes through Black Josh's thoughts and current way of life, fears, sitting back and reflecting at every moment creating a conscious banger.
Cosmic is the 10th track and features Reklews on the beat again creating a tranquil/laid back platform for Black Josh and Wordz to get busy with, dropping substance induced bars with lazy flows it's a certified bill up tune, so light one up and sit back. Produced by Morriarchi Cult Sag 616 has a beat that speaks Blah Records without the emcees needing to lace it, Black Josh opens with gutter delivery, followed by Milkaveli inducing comas with his cold flow and pengame, tied up flawlessly with Lee Scott on the closing verse. Utter greasy arrogance from start to finish.
Skipping the next 3 tracks tracks (again, you need to cop it yourself!) we find ourselves on the second to last track Escape Music featuring a self reflective tranquil beat by Sam Zircon. Black Josh glides across the relaxing back drop bringing up many difficult scenarios from growing up in a concrete jungle, from losing friends or seeing them lose focus to drug addiction, Black Josh showcases his versatility off yet again.
