We're back with another release from a very concrete and grounded label known as De Facto Entertainment who've been responsible for releasing numerous homegrown and authentic hip hop releases this year and already have many more planned in the pipeline! They hooked us up with a review copy of Gibbo's latest EP titled 'The Fresh Brew' produced by Stealf (29/09/2014) featuring a total of six tracks, we're going to jump straight into the review so let's get it poppin.
Gibbo kicks off the EP with the opening track Hands Of The Enemy featuring uplifting, quirky jazz samples on the production by Stealf while Gibbo spews his signature wordplay skills all over the ill vibes, tackling an array of subjects from lying snakes in the game to living a debt ridden lifestyle - a solid breath of fresh air and a solid opening track. Amokery features Gibbo going in with pound for pound flows, potent delivery and hard hitting rhymes over another groovy beat by Stealf. Green Tea builds the beat elegantly creating a solid platform form Gibbo to ride with a laid back flow, Gibbo takes charge with lazy subject matter and conscious rhymes to creating a flawless wake and bake track to set the tone for the day. Bill up a zoot, make a brew and check out the official video for Green Tea below.
Question Time is the 4th track from the EP and potentially our favorite from the release, the production features piano/drum loops creating another smashing beat for Gibbos presence, you can except to hear food for thought subject matter in which Gibbo asks rhetorical questions accompanied by reflective philosophies! Second to last we find ourselves on Lion Hide featuring a dreamy distorted beat in which Gibbo enlightens the production with life's mundane day by day routine. Last track on the The Fresh Brew EP is titled IAAF featuring funky guitar samples, drum and piano loops creating boombap shock waves for Gibbo to take control of, Gibbo does exactly that with his hard hitting delivery, ill witted bars and presence on the beat, a great closing track for The Fresh Brew.
