Emcee Habitat recently teamed up with Nottingham’s DJ Severe to work on a new release titled 'Empire Building' via the London based Boom Bap Professionals label - the release features a total of 10 tracks all which are packed with conscious food for thought rhymes, intricate delivery, solid presence and head bobbin' flows through out! We landed ourselves a copy of his release and liked it so much we gotta support these heads with a full length review!
The 10 track album Empire Building kicks off with a 1 minute Intro featuring upbeat production and nothing but old school vibes with the many classic cuts from some of the golden emcees and days. Valhalla Rhyming continues the uplifting vibes with some stella production from Remulak, Habitat laces it with sixteens compact with an array of vocabulary, crystal clear delivery and a flow you can't help but vibe with. Valhalla Rhyming also features a dope official video, so hit the play button below and keep reading!
Lost Technology is track #3 with production being handled by DJ Severe hitting us with a beat (and cuts!) that ooze the vibes of the golden days of hip hop creating a flawless platform for Habitat to do his thing! Deep Purple takes you on a tranquil journey with it's smooth and elevating beat, accompanied by some old school cuts Habitat drops his verses with ease, tackling a variety of subjects and delivered with confident flows. Polyrythmic is the first track on the album which features a few emcees backing up Habitat, you can expect to hear Mnsr Frites, Archetype, El Tel The Dopeness & Chrome lay down rhymes. All emcees on the track bounce off each other with fluent chemistry creating an organic homegrown classic that'll be on replay for a while.
Distraction continues to show the depths of Habitats subject matter and intricate rhymes schemes tackling food for thought subject matter and sticking to your true roots, absolute banger. Set Them Free is potentially our favorite track from Empire Building, the beat is of an extraterrestrial nature outputting frequencies and vibes unknown to this world, Habitat lays down rhymes revolving around his journey of an artist and fine tuning his craftsmanship. Empire Building is the self titled track which mixes it up slightly with a more demonic beat and another great example of Habitats concrete and polished style as he delivers technical rhymes. As we near the end Early Bird hits us with another great feature with Oliver Sudden & Luca Brazi alongside Habitat, another smashing beat by DJ Severe, everyone on this track completely compliments the other making this a killer team to be put on one track. Atlas Shruggeds closes the album as the 10th track and like the rest of the album, it doesn't disappoint and rounds the album off perfectly!
We hope you enjoyed our review of Empire Building by Ben Habitat & DJ Severe and if you haven't checked the music out yet we highly recommend it!
