Last year I was asked to review the Xidus Pain and Moses album Sleepless Cypher. For a relatively unheard of duo they completely smashed it, Sleepless Cypher held bags full of charisma, charm and wisdom. The two MC’s relayed a distinct 90s feel, from their relaxed and loose rhyming patterns to the authentic styled beats they used. This time around it’s Xidus Pain on his lonesome, with the Ultimate Warrior proving that he posses the powers to run tracks just as well on his Jack Jones.
Ultimate Warrior is a 14 track album which can be found on Bandcamp and uses a ‘name your price format’. The album rolls through many subjects, from exploring ancient cultures and artifacts, referencing religion and reflecting more modern day struggles with the beast. Xidus dips into street politics, poverty and personal accounts of people ‘going down the wrong path’.
We wanted to plug an official video for the mix tape but this is simply Xidus Pain warming up for his big release dropping this year, so checkout a bonus throw in video from us; One Of The Flyest
It’s not a concept album as such but it does open up a jamboree of thoughts that circle inside the artists head, he comes with relentless metaphors and clever relation to the outside world. You gain a sense that Xidus Pain is completely comfortable inside the studio and shares a real passion for what he does. His work rate and love for the art is apparent throughout, this is an artist who is doing it for himself.
Aspiration and exploration cries out in The Ultimate Warrior, it wouldn’t surprise me if Xidus Pain walked away from its final production wishing he included more tales for enlightenment. He comes across as an intelligent MC, an MC that would always have something to spit given the chance.
If you’re on the lookout for new UK Hip Hop that joins no allegiance to a particular scene and that rhymes about a lot more than puffing tree smoke up into the air then Xidus Pain is worth checking out. He’s got an easy listening style, he’s a switched on fella and his work is widely available across the net.
