Wordsmith Edward Scissortongue hit the scene last year with his debut album 'Better Luck Next Life' putting his stamp on the scene with some seriously impressive penmanship and aesthetic sounds. Ed's back in 2014 with his brand new EP titled 'Theremin' which features a total of 7 tracks featuring 6 different producers (Lamplighter, Dirty Dike, Sumgii, Miles Courtney, Eon ) creating truly unique atmospheres and complex lyricism we've come to know and love from Mr Scissortongue.
Take Readings is an instrumental track which opens up the EP flawlessly, the tranquil beat will allow you to gently ease into the atmosphere and expand your consciousness, preparing you for what's next. Teeth fades in with haunting pen game with vivid delivery that'll paint all sorts of pictures, flawless example of the levels Ed brings to the beat. The Wipeout Soundtrack has a beat which builds for a few moments until Ed's let loose to rip it up, experimenting with rhyme schemes, greasy flows and straight up wordplay through out! The track also features insane vocals from Toyfaces and is easily one of the sickest tracks from the EP.
Next up is the self titled track 'Theremin' kicking off with some violin riffs followed by Edward bombarding the track with his signature delivery, completely hammering the beat with vivid imagery and complex rhyme schemes - replay value here is unlimited. What follows after you say? Well part 2 of Theremin actually! The violin riffs are back and kick in instantly but slightly faster, followed by high hats and booms upping the ante continuing the unsettling nature of the beat and picturesque subject matter.
Second to last you're greeted with the grace of 'The Calculator' yet another example of the stunning production being released at the moment, you'll find yourself drifting between the tranquil beat and the eloquent rhymes being laid down. Check out the official video for The Calculator below! Once the track has finished a final instrumental has been laid down by Lamplighter to allow your thoughts to compress and compute what you've just heard.. the cycle then begins again.
