Underground emcee Jman has been touring the country for years showcasing nothing but raw talent and a promising future, ready to make his mark on the scene he's been busy working on his début album 'Auranography' which dropped earlier this week. Auranography features a total of 16 home-grown tracks and we were lucky enough to receive a promotional copy from Greasy Vinyl (BIG UPS!) and it would be a disgrace to the game if we didn't review this album so let's get stuck in!
Auranography kicks off with 'Welcome Abroad' introducing you gently into the turbulence that's heading your way with Jman spitting a few bars delivered with a lazy flow twang. Blending with ease we find ourselves at 4D Reality, which was the first track and video to drop earlier this year. Jman tackles a tranquil yet eerie beat with conscious bars gently touching on an array of subjects from ancient religions to the system. Half way through your chakras are lit up from the switch in the beat, featuring more energy but still carrying on the tranquil vibes, Jman also keeps up the conscious subject matter letting his pen game loose with a flow of extraterrestrial nature.
'Any Point Of The Day' is the third track which also features an official video and an insane beat produced by Badhabitz creating the perfect platform for Jman to conquer. Any Point Of The Day features food for thought penmanship at its finest level, explaining exactly what consists of Jmans day in the modern world reminding us of the bigger picture in every aspect. Check out the official video below.
'Highly Low' will make you slip into lucid states with dreamy intertwined flows and high grade subject matter, without a doubt a perfect track to blaze too. 'Roll Your Dice' is what perfection sounds like, the beat will take you back to the essence laced with self reflective bars and progressive undertones featuring Rag N Bone Man on the hook adding that final touch of Soul. Next up is 'Inner Peace' keeping up the positive vibes featuring Leaf Dog and Fliptrix ride the beat alongside Jman, a killer combination of emcees and yet another solid track.
Skipping a few tracks (You need to hear this album yourself, it adds a new definition to the word nang!) we find ourselves at track 11 titled 'Father Figures' featuring Split Prophets emcee Res, showcasing his work ethic again there's ANOTHER official video!. As the title suggests you'll be hearing what makes these two great role models father figures or not I guess? Who cares, either way it'll get your head bopping to the boombap vibes and production!
Clik Shit follows with a beat that builds with ease, first up Jman lays down the opening verse bombarding your ears with potent rhymes and a killer hook, backed up with verses from each Greasy Vinyl Clik associate in order; Sleaze, Gramma K and Bones who each deliver verses on par with J's showcasing the deadly combination of one of the South-west best collectives. Wet Fish stands out a lot for me, it's absolutely jokes but still showcases the versatility of his style and you can't help but bop and join in on the hook, gunning for the ladies who'll cheef your spliff - this is what'll happen.
A straight up boom bap track with some insane features, we find ourselves at 'Couger Piss' featuring BVA, Tommy Dockerz, Smellington Piff, Sean Peng and iNDEX! Couger Piss will have you hitting the replay button for months packed with verses from some of the best underground emcees. If it's not nang enough on it's own, it also has an official video filmed at an abandoned mental asylum, UKHH All day.
Anxious begins with slow pace rhyming over a beat oozing mantra vibes, soon exploding to release a burst of conscious rhymes and on point delivery showcasing his passion for the art. You can watch the official video for Anxious here.
The final track and video for his début album Auranography is titled 'Weed and Ale' featuring the legendary Dr Syntax and a video filmed at boombap earlier this year. Weed and Ale is definitely in my top 10 tracks this year featuring nothing but positive boombap party vibes that'll lead you raving in the morning after excessive listens! Watch the video below and delve into Boom Bap Festival 2012!
Auranography is nothing but a solid home-grown hip hop album with a unique sound running throughout, a great feature list and impeccable production - not to mention the amount of official videos alongside it.
