Xidus Pain and Moses demonstrate unique and dynamic hip hop teamwork. Sleepless Cypher is a honest, transparent and free spirited production, sharing no limitations to concept or guidelines. Pitching their individual swagger on beat with relentless rhymes referencing all types of influences. From metaphors surrounding cult classic film stars to religious beliefs, Ninja Turtles and the Road Runner. Warner Brother is a tune that will make you smile in appreciation to the old school cartoons.
Many lines contain clever innuendos or insinuations, something you'll be like "Oh yeah" to, but its much more than just a bag of funny joyous bars. The album's voice and authority grows with real power and at moments both Xidus Pain and Moses could be mistaken for a veteran duo on their 8th EP. The general vibe is feel good hip hop canned up of jumpy, bouncy, fast paced beats, yet the tinge of classic 90s production proudly pushes through, steering well clear from any Kanye West and Jay-Z chart bile. The track Homeslice is straight out of the classical hip hop era and wouldn't look lost in an original shell-toe.
Over the duration of Sleepless Cypher both Xidus Pain and Moses hold great presence on the mic, seeming to relish the chance to stand up and be counted, showing mad energy and style on pretty much every track. They fearlessly dive into every hook, punch and swing, battering beats with whatever they wish. Although the content is mostly loose they do tap into revolutionary and inspirational subjects. Yet the stand out line has to be in the ridiculing Belly of The Beast "Mans on road with their belly buttons out, mans selling dope with their belly buttons out. Mic check, whats that all about?" Too funny.
The real catch for this album is the versatility and easy listening factor, you can bump to it where ever you like and it'll still sound good. Although they're individual artists by right, the partnership is robust and works real smoothly, complimenting each other to the max. Both this forceful alliance and Sleepless Cypher is certainly not to be slept on. After listening to this album you get a feeling that there is much more to come from both MCs. The drive and fruitful vibe is too much to contain.
