Recently Broken Poetz (D.Know and Mystero) dropped a free EP titled 'The Pen, The Pad & The Things We Had' with production by the legendary Jabbathekut featuring a total of 7 tracks. Both emcees are from Andover in Hampshire and are passionate about making hip hop with heart and soul and I'd say they're doing exactly that. On the release you can expect to hear influences of Funk, Soul, Reggae and Blues creating positive and progressive beats ready for their smooth flows, content filled lyrics and flawless delivery.
The whole album features nothing but an abundance of metaphors, clever wordplay, hidden meanings and great subject matter, which in this day and age can be hard to find in the hip hop scene. Track one is titled 'Choose Life' and features a beat you can't help but vibe to, food for thought subject matter touching on the modern day life delivered with a positive edge.
Skipping a track we find ourselves at 'Seldom Seen' which is currently being bumped on BBC Radio 1xtra featuring crazy wordplay and lucid flows, great cuts and more importantly the subject matter yet again pushing that positivity and progression with every lyric.
The last track on the album is titled 'I don't know you like you know me' and features a acoustic beat enabling these emcees to lay down some self reflecting lyrics, the hook is off the wall and it's without a doubt one of my favourites off the EP. Broken Poetz are definitely ones to watch, crossing genres creating a fresh hip hop sound without dumbing down any of the content.
