Surreal Knowledge is a trio of emcees hailing from Blackpool, Lancaster and Morecambe however they're now based in Manchester, consisting of Bobby Esmond, Jay Madden and Mr Dick. Surreal Knowledge creates music that spans multiple genres drawing from elements of Rock, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Electro and of course, hip hop. The group have been creating a masterpiece album titled 'The Tri-Spectrum-Arguement' featuring a total of 17 tracks. We had a chance to review the album, so let's get into it!
The album has been in the making for 5 years and was finally released via Tactical Thinking and is available for whatever price you deem on Bandcamp, the entire album has been produced by Naive and Pete Cannon who you really should recognise by now as they have worked with pretty much everyone within the scene. The album also has a wide range of features from the likes of Syntax, Stig of the Dump and more! There's subject matter to suit all kinds of hip hop heads as well.
Track one is titled Long Time Comin kicking off with some dope samples, scratching and an intro to the entire album, head noddin production backed with raw lyrics from the trio. Skipping a few tracks we find ourselves at track number 4 titled 'Looking For Answers' featuring Jay Madden taking the position of a man searching for questions regarding the bigger picture of life and has a very brief discussion with god - possibly one of our favourite tracks off the album, needs an official video for sure.
Track 5 is titled 'Music 2020' and is backed up with some dope features with Stig Of the Dump and Dr Syntax laying down verses, this track focuses on straight up boom bap lyrics yet again backed up with some great production. Track 10 is titled 'Spenge' and features another great feature, Mic Dyson! This has got to be one of the livest beats I have ever heard, featuring a wacky chorus, samples out of this world and double time bars tarnished off with smooth flows!
Track 15 is titled 'Don't Wait For Tomorrow' and features a laid back beat with positive vibes and lyrics. In it's most basic form, the track features motivational lyrics about getting up and doing it instead of waiting for tomorrow and I'm sure we've all been a victim of that at some point. This is without a doubt up there for one of our favourite tracks so far this year, check it out below and don't sleep on this album! Make sure to get your copy below and spare some pennies, as it's a banger of a free album.
